The aim of individual therapy is to explore feelings, beliefs, or behaviours, work through challenging or influential memories or identify aspects of life that one would like to change, have a better understanding of, or accept.

Individuals seek therapy for a wide variety of reasons; from coping with major life challenges or changes, childhood trauma, as well as for learning better ways to cope with difficulties such as depression or anxiety. Others may seek individual therapy because they desire greater self-knowledge and personal growth

The duration of individual therapy varies; a client and therapist may work together for as few as one to six sessions or as long as several years, depending on the client’s unique needs and personal goals for therapy.
